What is the proper voice level for reciting the Amidah — should one hear one's own voice?
Synopsis
The Mechaber rules one should whisper so that one hears oneself but others cannot hear. The Zohar-oriented view says one should not even hear oneself. The Gra, Magen Avraham, and most Acharonim rule the Shulchan Aruch's view is correct and l'chatchila one should hear oneself.
