When a Jew and non-Jew are partners in an animal, under what conditions may the non-Jew use the animal for work on Shabbat?
Synopsis
Seif 5 presents three approved methods to structure a Jewish-Gentile animal partnership so the non-Jew can use the animal on Shabbat: (1) stipulating at purchase that the non-Jew takes Shabbat and the Jew takes a weekday; (2) full loan (halva'ah) with risk transfer and right to sell; (3) full loan with risk transfer but without right to sell (using apoteiki or mashkon). The Rema rules all these methods are valid.
