Is it permitted to open or close a door when a candle is fixed to the door itself (where the oil moves closer or farther from the wick with each movement)?
Synopsis
When a candle is fixed to the door itself, opening or closing the door necessarily moves the oil relative to the wick, causing either kindling (hav'ara) or extinguishing (kibui). The Rema permits this for wax candles where no oil movement is involved.
