May one transfer food from before one animal to another of a different species?

ShabbatAnimal Care

Synopsis

Taking food from before a donkey and placing it before an ox is permitted. The reverse is forbidden because ox saliva makes the food unpleasant to the donkey, rendering it muktzeh. A minority Ashkenazic view extends this stringency broadly to any cross-species transfer.
