If a Jew sees a non-Jew performing the Jew's work on Shabbat, must the Jew protest?

ShabbatErev Shabbat

Synopsis

The Mechaber and all authorities rule that if the work was given with katzatz, no protest is required. If not katzatz (or if done as a favor/tovaat hana'ah), the Jew must protest. The Aruch HaShulchan and later authorities also distinguish between private and public melachah regarding the degree of obligation to protest.
