May one sell an item to a non-Jew and load it for him on Erev Shabbat close to dark, where the non-Jew will carry it through the public domain on Shabbat?
Synopsis
The Mechaber permits selling to a non-Jew and loading the item for him close to dark, provided the non-Jew leaves the Jew's house while it is still daytime. The concern is twofold: the moment of acquisition (when the non-Jew leaves the premises) and the appearance that the Jew sold on Shabbat. The Rema and MB add nuances regarding when the non-Jew can designate a place in lieu of leaving.
