May one place wool in a dyeing pot on Erev Shabbat when the pot is on the fire, or when it is not on the fire but is not sealed with mud?

ShabbatErev Shabbat

Synopsis

Placing wool in a dyeing pot is prohibited when the pot is on the fire (lest one stoke the coals) or when not on the fire but not sealed with mud (lest one stir it with a spoon). Stirring the pot is a Torah-level violation of cooking even when off the fire. The Mishnah Berurah notes that stirring a dyeing pot carries an additional stricture over stirring a cooking pot.
